When I changed my company name to “David Hoyt Entertainment” in 2012 I spent some time thinking about what three words I wanted to convey to the world about what I offered so that I could use them as a tag-line for my business.

I came up with “Elegant, Fun and Unique”.  I liked it. They were the words that I thought up on my own about my business….

As I’ve received more training in all areas of the wedding business I heard a great suggestion from Alan Berg.  Alan has worked for both The Knot and Wedding Wire and is a wedding marketing genius.  His suggestion was to go back through my reviews on Wedding Wire and begin pulling out the words that appear over and over.  Those are the words that my previous couples have used to describe me, and that should carry much more weight than anything I could think up on my own.

So one afternoon a few weeks ago my wife Rebecca and I sat down and started going through my reviews.  We began writing down the words that showed up over and over.

Here’s the worksheet complete with my cruddy handwriting and a coffee stain for authenticity!  😉

The three words that came up the most were “Trusted”  “Personal” and “Amazing”.  

So what does those words mean?  You can decide for yourself, but here’s what they mean to me:

Trusted-This is a huge one.  Brides and Grooms can get very nervous when it comes to selecting their DJ for their wedding and for good reason.  I wish that it wasn’t true but there are many MANY terrible DJ’s out their ruining weddings every weekend.  I train extensively so that I can be the best I can be for the couples who are nice enough to trust me with their day.  The fact that “Trust” came up over and over again….along with “detailed, professional, communicated well, helpful, reliable, punctual, flexible, accomodating, organized, listened” means the world to me. 

Personal-Every couple has a story that is unique to them.  Every gathering of family has their own unique cast of characters.  Every wedding has similarities…but when your DJ knows you, knows your story, and asks about your family, your wedding can be made personal to you and your vision of the celebration you want to have.
The other words that fell under the “Personal” heading were “patient, warm, good natured, friendly, personable, comfortable, loved, great, joy to work with, laid back”.  

Amazing-The humble side of me finds it difficult to accept that the word “amazing” came up more than any other word that was used to describe me.  It seems so braggadocios to put that word there but… the people have spoken.  The awesome couples that have trusted me with their wedding receptions said over and over that I was amazing.  I’m truly humbled by that and will continue to work and train to live up to that description. The other words that fell into that category were, “wonderful, great, excellent, and best ever”.

So there it is, my new tag-line and the reason behind it.
